Budgeting for the Future

This past week I have fallen down the YouTube "rabbit hole" of minimalism videos which lead me to one that deals all about finance. I then binged hard. The YouTuber, Chelsea from The Financial Diet, talks about simple ways to save money, how to plan for the future (retirement), how to enjoy pleasures that make you feel "rich" without spending much and so many more little tidbits of advice.

We haven't saved money for retirement as diligently as we should and this has been a great wake up call. Big Dragon has all kinds of insurance (death and disability)if something horrible was to happen to him so I would be alright for a while.

I admire the 50, 30, 20 method of finance too and it's something I would like to model and strive for. Living expenses take up 50% of your monthly budget, wants take up 30% and savings take up 20%.

Some of the tips to have your house feel more expensive:

*lighting- use softer lights and good smelling candles

*use fresh herbs in your food, grow your own inside

*invest in a nice water picture (we may have invested in a glug glug jug)

That's been my current obsession and it is a great way to reset my mind on realistic goals.
