Dragon's Gigi
There is a very special Grandma that we had to leave in Alberta. We wish we could have brought her along, she could have fit in one of our suitcases. This 86 year old legend is such an inspiration. She is more active than a lot of twenty-something's that I know, filling her days with Tai Chi, Aqua-fit, playing taxi to her friends that cannot drive, baking for everyone and anyone, visiting her elderly friends in various independent and assisted living facilities, and cutting out pictures from magazines and newspapers to fill her many letters she writes with her signature "confetti". We think about her often.
When she bakes, she always mentions, "There is love in every bite". This is a true statement. Her collections of cookie recipes, cinnamon buns, and butter-horns are infamous in the Hornberger household. She also fills her time with knitting slippers for the young and old. Gigi (standing for Great-Grandma for the 16 great grandchildren she has collected over the years... and counting...) was a nurse for the majority of her working days and was known at the hospital for knitting little slippers for all of the newborn babies. She has continued this legacy with her own grand-babies, despite the growing pain of arthritis and once again amazes me with her unconditional love for her family. We know that, "There is love in every stitch".
