Accessorizing
for the Fall
I
have always been partial to the seaon of Fall.
The
changing, vibrant colours of the leaves. Being able to sleep at night with the
moon and the stars out, ending the unconvincing arguments with a toddler about
going to bed when the sun is “still awake”. Rediscovering the pleasure of a warm duvet to cuddle with
and not having to retreat into the basement for those uncomfortable hot nights.
And let’s
not forget about the fashion. Goodbye swimsuit and flip flops and Hello scarves,
gloves, boots and jackets. I was born to layer.
I
once was privildged to overhear a conversation between two seniors at a Value
Village in Halifax. Yes, I am a proud thrifter. One was explaining to the other
what she had heard about a latest fashion trend “You can put this shirt with
this sweater. It is called layering.” I think I even verbalized an affectionate
“Awww” and a tiny silent clapping as I witnessed this an aisle over.
Every
September Vogue puts out their fashion Bible in magazine form. Wear this, buy
that. This year it’s anything from boots to fuzy shoes, bold printed tights to sylish
loafers, skinny scarves to turtleneck dickies, pleated skirts and grey suits.
Sounds
confusing and perhaps exhausting at best.
I was
working in an office a few years back when one of the clients commented on my cool
“bracelet”.
“I
have noticed a lot of you young gals wearing those lately” remarked the lady
who had gracefully aged out of her girlhood. I didn’t know how to respond
without offending the nice woman so like many, I smiled and nodded at her
observation.
I had
a brown Goodie hair elastic wrapped singlely around my wrist. I guess with most
busy moms it’s a trend that isn’t going away any time soon.
