My Little Verbalizer

So, as Little Dragon is our first and only child at this time, we like to refer to him as our "experiment" baby. Like many of you, we have read the latest books, talked to many veteran parents and then pick and choose how we want to mould our Dragon's mind. Big Guy had expressed great interest in interacting ONLY in French with Little Dragon. We had heard from several credible sources and from firsthand experience with many bi and tri lingual families that this approach works and is easy for the child to separate the two languages from the two different parents (in the case of trilingual, the Mom speaks Spanish, Dad French and the children socialize and go to church in English).

We are amazed on Little Dragon's expanded vocabulary as he is not quite 18 months and can speak over 100 words and even is stringing some together (pretty mama, bye bye papa, nice car). It is awesome to hear him imitate words that I would have never thought he could say, umbrella and today even, elevator.

His responds to Big Guys commands (as well as an 18 month old can) and can do sound effects of almost any French animal under the sun. **French Animal=English Animal with smoker's cough. Since Big Guy spent more time with Dragon during Winter Break some French words have seeped into his everyday use such as l'ours (bear), patate (potato) and but (goal) when he kicks or throws the ball in the net.

I suppose my advice is marry someone who knows another language... Not just the language of love. Hardy har har. Because really, there is nothing cuter than hearing, "Merci, Mama!"
